MIPI® Alliance Forms Test Working Group, Approves Enhanced Specification Testing Policy

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Dec. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Increased Focus on Test and Interoperability Will Speed Specification Deployment MIPI Alliance today announced the formation of a new Test Working Group (TWG) as well as a broader testing policy designed to support its members' efforts to implement MIPI specifications. The Test Working Group will provide a forum to discuss specification quality and conformance issues, provide guidance and resources to other MIPI Working Groups, advise the MIPI Board on all test-related issues, address conformance questions, and encourage interoperability activities. This increased focus on the "testability" of MIPI specifications will speed deployment and improve manufacturability. For more information, visit

The new policy includes the development of Conformance Test Suites and support for member companies or test service providers to organize interoperability test activities.

"MIPI Alliance is committed to delivering specifications which are designed for test and can be easily deployed," said Joel Huloux, Chairman of the Board of MIPI Alliance. "The updated test policy and Test Working Group will certainly improve the quality and consistency of MIPI-based products in the mobile marketplace." MIPI Member Companies Show Support for Test Efforts Several MIPI member companies actively pursued the creation of the Test Working Group, believing that a focused commitment would benefit the members, the Alliance and its specifications. Following are comments from a few key contributors.

"A solid testing strategy is essential for the success of new interface specifications," said Roland Scherzinger, Agilent's MIPI program manager. "We are excited to see the enhanced MIPI Alliance Testing Policy and the dedication of the new Testing Work Group. Agilent Technologies will actively support testing efforts within the MIPI Work Groups." "BitifEye fully supports the revised test policy and would be happy to work with customers and other interested parties in order to provide suitable products such as test accessories and services," said Alexander Schmitt, CEO, BitifEye Digital Test Solutions GmbH.

"Even though MIPI does not mandate a testing program, we believe this new working group with its special focus on test will help to provide guidance to MIPI adopters and contributors alike on testing MIPI products to the specifications," said Brent Newman, senior staff engineer at Qualcomm. "As co-chair of the Test Working Group, I am excited and looking forward to the many possibilities." "With the success of MIPI and the increasing number of products implementing MIPI standards the update of the test policy accommodates the need for interoperability and testability," said Douglas Perry, Director, Memory, Research in Motion. "The focus on conformance will be a cornerstone for the spreading of MIPI interfaces during the next decade and as such the improved policy lays the foundations." "The convergence of mobile applications and mobile SoC platforms, is driving a strong growth in use of the MIPI protocols and rapid adoption of both design and verification IP," says Debashis Chowdhury, vice president of R&D at the Synopsys Verification Group. "As part of our commitment to MIPI-based verification and interoperability of MIPI designs, we fully support the activities of the Test Working Group." "Meeting the needs of the MIPI and M-PHY design community has been a top priority for Tektronix, Inc., and by actively contributing to the MIPI Alliance Test Working Group, we are committed to deliver comprehensive test solutions to our customers in this space," said Brian Reich, General Manager, Performance Oscilloscopes, Tektronix, Inc.

"The success of MIPI specifications is evident in the strong demand for testing them," said David Woolf, senior engineer with the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab. "The creation of this new group within MIPI Alliance shows how the organization is responsive to member needs. UNH-IOL is exciting to continue our work with MIPI Alliance in cooperation with the new Test Working Group."
