Montana DEQ Launches Innovative New Asbestos Project Permit Application Service

HELENA, Mont. --(Business Wire)--

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has launched a new Asbestos Project Permit and Demolition Notification online service. Now asbestos project permits and demolition notifications can be submitted through the DEQ website and mobile devices including smartphones and other handheld or tablet devices. The service is located at:

Asbestos Project Permits and Demolition Notifications are required prior to demolition or renovation of commercial buildings in order to protect both workers and the public from the release of potentially hazardous asbestos containing materials.

"We are pleased to be able to increase efficiencies and save time in the asbestos project permit process for both contractors and program staff," said D. Eason, DEQ Asbestos Program Data Specialist. "We understand that contractors are busy so the service will allow them to apply for asbestos project permits and demolition notifications 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our new notification system will also provide updates on their permit applications while it's in process."

Other benefits of the online service include application error reduction and mobile access so contractors can submit permit applications and notiications right from the work site.

Contractors access the online permit by logging into the Asbestos Project Permit Application Service using a secure login and password at Once logged in, the contractor will select the type of application; Project Permit, Demolition Notification, or a combination of the two. Contractors are then guided through the application process with easy-to-use navigation and a chance to review, edit and save the application prior to submitting.

Contractors who use the online service will be able to pay online via electronic check or credit card, including Visa, MasterCard (News - Alert), and Discover. Throughout the process, the automated system will update contractors via email of their application process, submission and acceptance. Approved permits will be emailed to the contractor.

The Asbestos Project Permit Application Service is the result of an alliance between state government and the private sector. It was cooperatively developed and is supported by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, the Montana Department of Administration's State Information Technology Services Division, and Montana Interactive, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of eGovernment provider NIC (Nasdaq: EGOV).
