BRIEF: Middletown Christmas Tree Recycling Collection Starts Thursday

MIDDLETOWN, Jan 02, 2013 (The Hartford Courant - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The city will begin collecting Christmas trees on Thursday for recycling at the Johnson Street recylcing facility.

Christmas trees must be placed at the curb by Sunday, Jan. 6 with the stump facing the street to be collected. All decorations and plastic bags must be removed from the trees.

Trees can also be delivered to the recycling center, 185 Johnson St. There is no charge to drop off a tree but residents need to show a valid driver's license to prove they are a city resident.

Christmas trees will be chipped along with other brush from around the city. Wood chips are given away for free to residents and deliveries of more than five yards of chips are delivered to residents for free.
