Dallastown's Gable wins PIAA spirit award

Jan 30, 2013 (The York Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Dallastown's Angie Gable is the first recipient of the GTM Sportswear Competitive Spirit Coaches Award.

The award was announced Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Gable served as the Dallastown Area School District's varsity football and wrestling cheerleading coach for the past 20 years. She was nominated for the honor by Dallastown athletic director Tory Harvey and selected by the PIAA's Sportsmanship Committee.

The committee recognized Gable for her commitment to the community outside of her regular role as a high school English teacher and cheer coach, including leadership roles with the Big 33 Football Classic and the Cystic Fibrosis Team Shad events. Her squads also participate in volunteer work for the American Cancer Society and the Great PA Clean-Up.

She is also involved in the school's Volunteer Club. Gable raised funds for troops, coordinated seasonal pep rallies to build community spirit and collected items for canned food drives and Toys for Tots. She has also helped organize the York-Adams League Competitive Spirit Championships "We are very excited to have Angie chosen for this award, as there are not too many opportunities out there to recognize the hard work our cheerleading coaches from across the state," Harvey said in a news release from the PIAA.

The GTM Sportswear Competitive Spirit Coaches Award will be presented to Gable on Feb. 2 at the first PIAA Competitive Spirit State Championships at Hersheypark Arena prior to the competition finals. General admission tickets will be on sale beginning at 8 a.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $4 for any K 12 student. Pre kindergarten children will be admitted free of charge.
