New 'Blue Wave' role for Quinn [Eire Region] [Mirror (UK)]

(Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) FORMER Dublin star Tomas Quinn has been appointed as the county's new commercial and marketing manager.

Quinn, who retired from inter-county football following the 2012 season, takes the newly established position as the Dublin county board bids to roll out the 'Blue Wave' strategy published in 2011.

Quinn previously worked as commercial manager at Dalkia Ireland and will have "responsibility for developing and delivering on sponsor relationships for all existing and new merchandising and licensing arrangements." He said: "It is a great opportunity for me to combine my GAA and commercial experience and to work with the county board to evolve existing and new commercial opportunities at a time when the commercialisation of sport is reaching over new boundaries and, in particular, when the success and support for both football and hurling in Dublin is so strong.

"Commercial success should have a positive impact in both games and club development throughout the county. It is genuinely very exciting." Also appointed as senior consultant in the same division is Mike Farnan, who has previously had board level roles at Sunderland FC, Sheffield United International, Jordan Grand Prix and Manchester United.

Speaking on the two appointments, Dublin chairman Andy Kettle said: "We are delighted to announce details of our new commercial team.

"Dublin GAA is a great but very under-exploited brand and we are excited by the opportunity to develop that brand through a new commercial team with really deep experience of both the global sports marketplace and the GAA itself."
