ZTE Selects Cypress's TrueTouch Gen4 Touchscreen Solution for Flagship nubia Z5S and nubia Z5S Mini Smartphones

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 26 February 2014 Release date- 25022014 - BARCELONA, Spain - ZTE, the world's fifth-leading provider of mobile phones, has selected TrueTouch Gen4 capacitive touchscreen controllers from Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) for its premium brand nubia Z5S and nubia Z5S Mini smartphones.

These new, top-of-the-line phones use the Gen4 TMA463 controller to deliver superior finger tracking and sensitivity on their dynamic multitouch touchscreen displays. The controller also implements an easy-wake gesture for both phones, enabling users to conveniently activate them from sleep mode with a customized gesture, such as a double tap.

Gen4 delivers best-in-class immunity to electrical noise from sources such as after-market chargers and displays, and it enables leading water tolerance. This combination provides accurate touch input and finger tracking in environments where competing solutions experience false and missed touches.

The TrueTouch portfolio's unique features are backed by an industry-leading portfolio of more than 100 capacitive touch sensing patents. ZTE nubia selected Cypress based on its technical leadership, advanced features, and strong global technical support. Cypress is demonstrating its TrueTouch touchscreen controllers here at Mobile World Congress in Hall 2, 2E30MR at Fira Gran Via from February 24-27, 2014.

'Cypress's TrueTouch solution gave us the touchscreen performance and differentiating features we wanted for the launch of our nubia brand with the original Z5 smartphone,' said Ni Fei, general manager for the nubia brand at ZTE. 'With the Gen4 controller, the Z5S and Z5S Mini meet our same high standards for touchscreen performance, and integrate improvements such as the easy-wake gesture for an even better user experience.' 'We are committed to continuously innovate to help our customers differentiate their products in the market,' said Shuo Zhang, vice president of worldwide mobile sales at Cypress. 'Our dedicated touchscreen design center in China worked closely with ZTE nubia to provide the user experience they wanted for these impressive new smartphones.' Cypress's TrueTouch Gen4 controllers deliver an array of technologies that competing solutions cannot match. Gen4 employs Cypress's patented DualSense technology to execute both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements in the same device, and switch dynamically between the two in application.

This ability enables glove tracking, passive stylus support, and face detection features, as well as TrueTouch's unrivaled water rejection capability. Cypress's touch-sensing portfolio is the industry's broadest and most well adopted, encompassing TrueTouch, CapSense, and TrackPad solutions. The company's unmatched IP portfolio includes true, single-layer sensor solutions with Cypress's Single-Layer Independent Multi-touch (SLIM) sensor for dramatically reduced touchscreen costs.

About TrueTouch Cypress's TrueTouch technology provides the industry's best noise immunity, highest SNR, best waterproofing, fastest refresh rates, lowest power consumption, and world's best accuracy and linearity. The flexible TrueTouch solution allows customers to rapidly develop leading-edge solutions without having to buy turnkey modules.

They have a choice of using touch sensors (glass or film) and LCDs from preferred partners, and can develop innovative mechanical designs ranging from flat to curved surfaces of varying thickness. The patented capacitive sensing technology of TrueTouch devices offers robust noise immunity that enables flawless operation in noisy RF and LCD environments.
