"Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound," An Animal Health Foundation Event

LAKE FOREST, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Did you know that 250,000 human deaths annually are associated with physical inactivity? Get moving at the Animal Health Foundation's first "Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound" fundraiser March 30 at Irvine Regional Park in Orange, CA (News - Alert).

Get healthy, get educated, and have fun on 3 paved courses between 1 and 2 miles long for humans and their canine friends. Strollers are permitted. The courses will wind through Irvine Regional Park's beautiful live oak trees and shady sycamore groves, with views of dry riverbeds and hills.

Vendors will provide information about pet insurance, veterinary care, training, daycare and more.

Registration is $25 per person and Irvine Regional Park charges a $5 parking fee. Participating dogs must at least 4 months old, fully vaccinated, wearing identification, be licensed and on leashes not to exceed 6 feet. NO Flexi (extendable) leashes allowed. Dogs in heat will not be allowed. Participants with aggressive dogs may be asked to leave. Pet waste bags and trash cans will be located along the course. No bicycles, skateboards, scooters or skates allowed.

Funds raised will hep support Animal Health Foundation programs that provide financial assistance for veterinary care, disaster relief and wildlife in need, the Caring Creatures pet therapy programs, and scholarships. AHF is a nonprofit group with the mission of helping pets and wildlife in need.

Sponsors include Frontline Plus, VCA All Care, VPI Pet Insurance, Back Bay Veterinary Hospital, Vetoquinol USA and Just Food for Dogs. Vendors include Trupanion Pet Insurance, Pawsitively Petacular Productions, KODA Pet Foods, Tooferme Leashes, and veterinary specialty booths with information about many topics of interest to dog owners. Wags and Wiggles will provide agility demos, and there will be a performance by So Cal Disc Dogs. The event also offers goody bags and free raffle tickets for registrants with silent auction items totaling $4,000 in value!

The name of the event is inspired by the book of the same name by Phil Zeltzman and Rebecca Johnson, which promotes humans and dogs working out together, as a dog is an ideal exercise partner: supportive, enthusiastic, and nonjudgmental. This idea supports one of AHF's main goals: to encourage the human-animal bond.
