Samsung eyes 30pc of Dar market [Citizen, The (Tanzania)]

(Citizen, The (Tanzania) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dar es Salaam. Korean electronics giant Samsung says it wants to raise its market share in Tanzania to 30 per cent this year as the company strategizes to become a leading consumer electronics supplier in the country.  Currently, the company's share of electronics' market is slightly below 30 per cent but Samsung Electronics Tanzania managing director Dongha Jang said yesterday that with ongoing efforts, it will meet the target by the end of this year.

Last year, he said, the company sold 50,000 units of its products in the country.

He said the 30 per cent projection was arrived at after a comprehensive research on the demand for Samsung products in Tanzania and Africa as a whole.

During the course of the research, he said, it was realized that Africa needs cost-saving appliances that can easily withstand the continent's atmosphere.

"That is why we have collectively tagged some of our appliances as "Built for Africa".

Among the items, specifically built to cope with the African environment include fridges and freezers that are suitable for home and commercial use," said Mr Jang.

Amongst the products, he said, the company recently launched two signature consumer home appliances - the Samsung Duracool freezer and Triangle AC.

The launch was part of Samsung strategy of maintaining its position as the leading electronics provider in Tanzanian homes.

Samsung Duracool freezer and Triangle AC have the features and attributes that allow it to function at the maximum level in the tough Tanzanian environment where electricity supply is unreliable with unstable costs.

They come with the promise of making life easier and operate in a manner that is cost effective to the end user.

In a market that is unpredictable as Tanzania the electronics firm has been able to identify the areas that interest its customers in a calculated manner.
