Iran to unveil new cyber security products

(Trend News Agency (Azerbaijan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Baku, Azerbaijan, June 29 By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran will unveil five new cyber security products in the current Iranian calendar year, which ends in March 2015.

Iran's Passive Defense Organization's Director Gholam-Reza Jalali said that new switching system, router, browsing engine, anti-malware, and security operations center will be unveiled, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on June 29.

An indigenized SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system is being used in strategic and sensitive networks of the country, he added.

On June 22, Jalali said that Iran faced some 50,000 cyber attacks in the past year.

Most of the attacks were targeted at the banking systems and emails of Iranian users, he noted.

The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) has released a brief report which examines developments in Iran's cyber warfare strategies over the course of 2013, which indicates that the nation has propelled itself from a "third tier" country with regards to their cyber capabilities to "one of the most active players in the international cyber arena." "Iran's progress can be attributed to a combination of two elements: a certain easing of the restraints on offensive activity in cyberspace by Iranian decision makers, and a qualitative leap by the Iranian cyber warfare system," the report states.
