Second City Communications Launches Improv Training for Lawyers That Builds Powerful Skills in Listening, Communications, Negotiation, Reading A Room, and Flexibility for Dealing with Unknowns

TORONTO --(Business Wire)--

Second City Communications, the business training division of the world renowned improvisational comedy theatre - The Second City, has launched an innovative professional development workshop called Improv for Lawyers, which is designed to strengthen essential skills critical for success.

Improv for Lawyers draws on Second City's more than ten years experience working with law firms and bar associations to train lawyers to meet key challenges confronting them daily.

"It turns out our worlds are more similar than you might think. Both improvisers and lawyers need to listen, read a room, think on their feet, respond to the unexpected, generate new ideas and approaches on the spot - and collaborate effectively on teams," said Toronto-based Sandy Marshall, vice president, Second City Communications. "Our Improv for Lawyers Workshop is excellent for building skills in those critical areas," Marshall added.

The Law Society of Upper Canada recently accreditd Improv for Lawyers for Continuing Professional Development credits in both Professionalism and Substantive Content.

Second City Communications improvisation experts focus on the following learning objectives and topics: using the improv concept of "Yes, And" as a communication tool; enhanced negotiation skills and the ability to "think on your feet"; focused listening to receive messages more effectively; the importance of correct word choices; listening with authenticity; managing change more effectively; and recognizing ways to support communication from others.
