Emergency Medicine Physicians Announces New Board Chairman

CANTON, Ohio --(Business Wire)--

Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP Ltd.), one of the nation's largest acute care providers, today announced the appointment of Dr. Peter Hudson to Chairman of the Board of EMP Holdings Ltd. Hudson's primary responsibilities will be helping to lead the organization as it grows, innovates and drives the evolution of acute care.

"Through his incredibly unique mix of operational and executive experience in a variety of healthcare organization types, Pete will help EMP re-imagine acute care in the 21st century," said Dominic Bagnoli, M.D., chief executive officer, EMP. "His work across the industry, as an emergency physician directly serving patients' needs, managing provider organizations that deliver acute care, and bringing innovation to the employer and payer space through the use of cutting edge technology, has helped champion the success of a more integrated delivery process and dialogue. This experience and approach align perfectly with EMP's mission and vision."

An industry leader and innovator in emergency department management, EMP is one of the largest physician-wned emergency department groups in the U.S. EMP-managed emergency departments deliver more value for the healthcare dollar by providing quality outcomes, disease prevention and patient-centered care in 64 hospitals across 15 states. EMP Holdings is also an active healthcare investor including investments in freestanding emergency departments, urgent cares and telemedicine.

"Each year, hundreds of millions of people experience acute care needs in the U.S. alone. Acute care, combined with the delivery of care and the costs associated with episodic life cycles, is an area ripe for innovation," said Hudson. "As a physician entrepreneur focused on the creation of efficiencies, consumer engagement, and the application of technology for solving big healthcare problems, I can't think of a better opportunity or organization than EMP to align with to make an impact on the industry. EMP has a long history of providing the highest quality of care, and has built an incredible organization poised for rapid growth."

Hudson most recently co-founded and served as chief executive officer to consumer healthcare technology, iTriage, which was acquired by Aetna in 2011.

As a self-insured healthcare provider, EMP seeks to lower cost and produce better clinical outcomes. EMP was founded in 1992 by practicing emergency medicine physicians who had a vision for creating a better way to deliver emergency medicine care.
