Facebook joins GSM lobby group COAI [India Business] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW DELHI: Social networking giant Facebook has joined GSM operators lobby group Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), a move that will help it get a bigger and effective platform to raise various issues with the government, while having a closer interaction with top mobile operators.

The Mark Zuckerberg-led company has been inducted as an associate member of the association. COAI's associate membership comprises of companies that manufacture or support the functioning, promotion, R&D and evolution of mobile communications services.

"Social networking, especially Facebook, has changed the way Indians work, play, communicate, socialize and do business ... We feel that Facebook's active participation in COAI activities will result in mutual value addition and bring the much-needed synergy of functioning between the service providers and the content/VAS players," said Rajan S Mathews, DG of COAI.

COAI's other associate members include Alcatel Lucent, Cisco Systems, Ericsson, IBM, GTL Infrastructure, Huawei Technologies, Indus Towers, Intel Corporation, Nokia Solutions and Networks, Qualcomm and ZTE.

"Joining COAI as an associate member reflects our focus on mobile technologies, access and our continued desire to work in collaboration with the industry to increase connectivity," a Facebook official said.
